Vice Mayor David Oro Announces Candidacy for Mayor of American Canyon
American Canyon, Calif. – August 6, 2024 – David Oro, an experienced City Councilmember with a track record of getting things done in the community and a deep commitment to its future, today announced his candidacy for Mayor of American Canyon. Guided by a clear vision, Oro aims to lead American Canyon into a new era of smart growth, better quality of life, and improved community safety.
The announcement comes at a turning point for American Canyon. The 2024 General Municipal Election in November will mark the first time in nearly 20 years the city will have a new Mayor.
Proven Commitment—and a Clear Vision
Appointed to the City Council in 2017 and elected in 2018, Oro has championed numerous initiatives that have significantly enhanced the quality of life in American Canyon. His leadership has been instrumental in developing the town center, revitalizing the Broadway corridor, opening Devlin Road, and securing sustainable water resources through the Sites Reservoir project. His efforts have also focused on creating housing for all income levels and improving local parks and the safety of our streets, all while investing in public safety with the expansion of staff in our police and fire departments.
A father and business owner, Oro’s vision for American Canyon has remained clear and consistent. “We must become a destination, not a drive-thru; a bedrock community, not a bedroom community. Our city should stand out as one of the Bay Area’s best, with a unique identity and a superb quality of life,” said Oro, who has lived in American Canyon with his wife and three children since 2005. “I am not just running to be Mayor; I am running to ensure that our city thrives for generations to come. My parents, my wife, and my children call American Canyon home. Like all of you, I want what’s best for our community.”
A Personal Commitment to Community
Even before he joined the City Council in 2017, David Oro played an active role in bettering American Canyon, becoming a founding member of the City’s Open Space Advisory Committee, lending his voice to various committee initiatives, campaigning to improve schools, coaching youth sports, and more.
